Sant Joan de les Abadesses. Ripollès. Romànic. Monestir

The development of Sant Joan de les Abadesses village is closely linked to its monastery. It was founded in 885 A.C. by Guifré i Guinedella, and the town began to spread around it. The monastery is a must-visit if you go to the village. It is not only one of the best and most symbolic examples of Catalan Romanesque, it also houses the Holy Mystery sculpture and the altar pieces of Santa Maria la Blanca and Sant Agusti

Ripoll. Ripollès. Monestir de Santa Maria. Portalada

Ripoll, capital of the Ripollès region, keeps of one of the country most important remains of Catalan Romanesque Art: Santa Maria de Ripoll monasteryl, founded by Guifré el Pilós circa 880 A.C. Its Romanesque arcade from the 12th century is considered an architectural work of great relevance. For this reason, its candidacy to the World Heritage was submitted during 2011.

Vall de Núria. Ripollès. Serrat de la Teia

Iron and Coal Route. Via Verda. Ripollès

This is a low-difficulty route which can be made either walking or biking. It follows the old railway line from which it gets its name. This railway line transported the coal produced at Ogassa mines to Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses between the 19th and 20th centuries. The old railtrack has been restored and has become one of Girona four greenways.
